So. About this weather. I don’t know about your city, but in DC, we’ve had the weirdest winter. If you can even call it winter. It’s basically become this weird pattern of it being super cold during the week and then in the high 50s/low 69s on weekends. (And you wonder why everyone’s getting sick). It’s made life very frustrating.
It’s also made putting together a work outfit for mild winter weather confusing. (Though let’s be honest, it’s just weird weather.)

I think I’ve kind of cracked the code in a way that manages to reuse all the clothes in my wardrobe and not crack my budget. It’s pretty simple. My basic pattern is sweater, skirt, tights, boots. On mild days: lighter sweaters and ankle boots. On colder days: heavier sweaters, a second shirt layer, and riding boots. If it’s too cold to function? I’ll break out the pants or the fleece tights. The formula is simple, but perfect. It’s much easier for me to get dressed in the morning now.
It’s also gotten me to finally pull out this skirt!
Speaking of which, this was kind of a controversial skirt, the first time I brought it out. I posted this J.Crew Ruffle Skirt during a dressing room try on and everyone was divided over whether or not they liked it! It seemed to be the same when I posted it over here on the blog.
I was still torn, so I did some size investigating. Then I realized that because it ran big, I actually just needed to get the skirt in one size smaller. I did and ta-da, the fit was perfect! I have to tell you though, I tried it on in the petite size (which is normally perfect) and it was comically short). The skirt was so short I think I was even too afraid to do pictures!
Do you have an outfit formula for work outfits? Or did you create a uniform to stick to?
