What dress code was given to you when you began the job?
Working in Southern California, business professional is a whole different ball game and wearing jeans to work is a pretty common thing. I was just told to come to work in comfortable clothing, but when it comes to events it’s an all black wardrobe for me!
What do you generally wear to work?
Usually colored jeans with a fun printed top, skinny waist belt to divide the outfit and a pair of heels, when I go to events I tend to wear flats because walking on the red carpet for a couple of hours than being on your feet for another 3-4 following is brutual!
Where do you like to shop for work attire?
Ann Taylor and LOFT are literally my best friends because they have the best petite departments. Banana Republic is also a favorite
How have you developed your professional style?
As I said, I don’t really have much of one but I like to mix sweaters or bulky knits with sleek pencil skirts or blazers with skinny jeans and heels. It’s all about comfort for me
In your specific office, what is one thing you would tell a woman to definitely NOT wear?
Loose necklines! I’m constantly bending down to put markers on the red carpet or picking up a sharpie which I tend to drop notoriously all the time. I wore an adorable pearl knit blouse without a tank top underneath it to an event and every time I bent down to pick something up everyone would get a clear view of my bra and cleavage without me even realizing it. Epic fail
What is the best “dress code” advice you have ever received?
Don’t go too crazy with monochrome palates. I have to wear black at events but don’t think I won’t add a pop of color in my shoes or accessories, I may have to be in black but that doesn’t mean I have to be dull
What advice would you give to women starting in her career about dressing for her job?
Don’t overthink it. If you’re at a store and your contemplating the length of your hemline or if your shirt makes you look wider than you are, don’t buy it. If you’re not comfortable in it in the store and feel like you own the world, than you definitely won’t be confident in the office.
