Remember when the Devil Wears Prada came out? It was the thing everyone was watching (and reading). Everyone was quoting some of Miranda’s best lines (“Florals for spring?”) and I swear, I STILL jump when I hear that ring tone. Let’s be honest, none of us could get enough of it. Lauren Weisberger, the author of the hit novel, knew she had a good thing. She gave us what we all needed, a sequel. It was…honestly I completely forgot what the plot of it was until I reread the description of it a few weeks ago. Let that be answer enough for you. (I should note though, that I have loved some of her other books since).
But she’s decided to come back to the Devil Wears Prada world and she’s come back with a bang.
Or rather, with a vengence?
When Life Gives You Lululemons focuses on Emily, Miranda’s assistant that you loved to hate and loved to love. Emily’s made her way out to LA where she’s running her own PR firm. Except when she runs into a few issues with high profile celebrities, she retreats to visit a friend in Connecticut. Ending up among the Lululemon clad women, she ends up twisted up in a world that she’s never wanted to be a part of.
This book takes place years after the Devil Wears Prada, but I love that Emily is still 100% Emily. She also stays that way throughout the book. She’s cynical, witty, and doesn’t have a problem calling it like it is. She helps with the fact that even though this book takes place among the housewives of Connecticut, trust me, at no point do you still feel that way. The story also introduces two other narrators: Karolina, a former supermodel recently arrested for a DUI and scorned by her senator husband, and Miriam, a NYC attorney turned housewife. These two women become Emily’s closest friends and create an incredibly entertaining story.
Do I recommend picking up When Life Gives You Lululemons? Yes! Weisberger lets the story develop naturally and nothing about the story feel forced. It’ll be great to bring on vacation with you, but trust me, you aren’t going to want to put it down.
