It’s wedding season! Which really just means it’s the season to spend money on everyone but yourself. Between buying gifts, travel, hotels, and appropriate attire, it can get exhausting. So I think it’s fair to say that we all could use a little comedic relief. Below I’ve gathered for you a number of books written from the perspective of wedding guests. Some are hilarious, some are sappy, but you’ll definitely find at least one you can sympathize with. They’re perfect wedding novels to read on your way to your next wedding!

Sunday Book Club: Wedding Novels for Wedding Guests

Wedding Novels for Wedding Guests

Unmarriageable by Soniah Kamal

I’ve reviewed this one earlier, but I absolutely love it: it’s Iranian Pride and Prejudice. But instead of the parties just being regular old parties, they all take place at the parties leading up to weddings! Plus, is there a book that could be more wedding centric?

The People We Hate at Weddings by Grant Ginder

Let’s get the family back together for a wedding! What could be better? Well, let’s just ignore the fact that everyone is kind of messed up in their own way, two of the siblings kind of resent the one getting married, and everyone has to travel overseas for the wedding. Nothing could go wrong, right?

Less – Andrew Sean Greer

How far would you go to avoid your ex’s wedding? Well, Less would go as far as accepting every speaking and teaching engagement he’s received and turned it into a world wide 6 month tour. Yes, all that just so he could avoid going to his ex’s wedding.

PS This book is the first ever comedic novel to win the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction!!

The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory

Since a lot of books seem to go along with the theme of ex’s weddings (why do people keep inviting their ex’s to their weddings??), I had to include The Wedding Date on the list! After all, what could be more appropriate than meeting a woman in an elevator right before a wedding and then asking her to be your date to the wedding?

Save the Date by Morgan Matson

Note to self, think of every possible thing that could go wrong for a wedding. Now read this book, because I think it covers everything, from the wedding planner disappearing with all of the money to needing to find a new officiant at the last minute. But my real question throughout this book was, why is the 17 year old the only one really trying to fix all of the problems?

Crazy Rich Asians – Kevin Kwan

You’ve probably read the book or seen the movie by now, but then you know that this book centers around a couple going to Singapore for a wedding and all the family issues that arise with it. While the wedding might not be the main focus, it is interesting to see all the craziness that arises with the wedding in the background. (Plus, I bet your bachelorette party wasn’t that ridiculous, thank god.)

Always a Bridesmaid by Jen Glantz

Jen Glantz might actually be the queen of weddings. Not because she’s had a lot, but because she’s been in a lot. In fact, she’s a professional bridesmaid! Jen has made a living being a bridesmaid for hire and this book shares her experiences with starting her business, funny stories from weddings, and what her experience has been like so far.

Save the Date: The Occasional Mortifications of a Serial Wedding Guest by Jen Doll

Jen Doll might not be the professional that Jen Glantz is, but she is a serial wedding guest. Here she shares some of her many embarrassing stories from some of the MANY weddings that she’s attended in the past.

The Wedding Party by Jasmine Guillory

Okay, so this book hasn’t come out yet, but I’m so excited for it that I couldn’t wait. This is the third book from the (unofficial) Wedding Date series and it’s, of course, based around a wedding. I’m not going to give any spoilers if you haven’t read The Wedding Date yet, but if you have, get excited!

Time to start reading some wedding novels….and traveling to weddings now, I guess.
