Is it just me or doesn’t it feel like romantic comedies scream “holiday season”? Maybe it’s because of Hallmark that I think that, but really, rom coms and the holidays just go hand in hand! That’s why when Anne and I found this book that’s a romantic comedy that also takes place in the winter, we knew that we had to share it for our next blogger reads!

TWO SENTENCE SUMMARY

Annie Cassidy is a rom com expert who dreams of being the next famous rom com screen writer (preferably Nora Ephron 2.0). But Annie’s life starts to turn into a rom com (complete with the quirky best friend) when she gets a job on a movie filming in her neighborhood and starts having her own rom com moments with the lead actor. (Do I need to say rom com one more time?)

WHAT I LIKED MOST AND WHAT FRUSTRATED ME

This book was 100% fun and I loved that it was a delightful read.

What did I not like? Well, um, you could see the character about to make her mistake before they happened and you were just cringing through them. It was so painful to read. Maybe some people enjoy that, but ughhhhh, I was getting so much second hand embarrassment.

FAVORITE QUOTE(S)

Everyone thinks of romantic comedies as being these sappy, unrealistic stories where love conquers all and everyone ends up happy at the end. But that’s not what her movies were at all. Like, in Sleepless in Seattle, you can’t really get any sadder that Tom Hanks missing his dead wife. And in You’ve Got Mail, Meg Ryan misses her mom and loses her store. None of that gets resolved by the end. It’s not like Tom’s wife comes back to life, and Meg Ryan still loses the business her mom built… The things that suck still suck, but they’re allowed to be happy. And maybe it means so much more that they’re happy, knowing that they still carry that sadness with them.

Anyone who loves a rom com! This is not a book for someone who wants a “Serious literature” (with a capital S) book. This is a book for people who love modern romance books from authors Like Christina Lauren, Well Met by Jen Deluca, or Jasmine Guillory.
