Spring Wedding Guest Dresses 2023

Guys, I am jumping for joy that I only have one wedding to go to this year (and it’s not until the fall). I love getting to support my friends on their special day, but honestly, going to a wedding, even one you aren’t in, can be exhausting. It’s a lot of planning and spending. Now, I’m a big proponent of reusing wedding guest dresses, but I also love an excuse to buy a new dress. So today, we’re going to go wedding guest dress shopping for you. I’ll share some of my favorite dresses out right now for spring and other dresses that will carry you through the summer wedding season. I’ve also made an effort to find dresses at many different price points, but if you find one that’s a bit too expensive, just wait a bit. There will always be a sale. You can also always check Rent the Runway, but personally, I always find dresses where the rental price is what I would spend to just buy a dress.

Spring Wedding Guest Dresses for 2023

I love how many retailers are carrying GOOD spring wedding guest dresses at so many price points! Previously, I would have stuck to a few sites, but I expanded this year and found great dresses from Abercrombie and Fitch, Mango, H&M, Tuckernuck, and Pretty Little Thing. I think it helps that Gen Z is really stepping up their style when it comes to Prom and Homecoming dresses, so retailers want to step up to meet them there.

Bright Colors

During the winter, I’m a neutrals queen. Gimme white, black, navy, and cognac or let me stay at home. But during the spring I loved embracing brighter colors (especially, pink, green, and cobalt). This year, bright colors are everywhere. In my opinion, the best way to wear these dresses is to either accessorize with neutrals or color block like it’s your job. Here I have two examples of one way you do accessorize the same dress:

As you can see, in the first picture, I picked a simple strap nude shoe to go with this cocktail dress. Then I added a simple taupe clutch, small gold hoops, and a simple gold bracelet. This will really let your bright colored dress shine. I did add an expensive shoes option, because I think that this is a great pair that you’ll get to re-wear a lot (and you can get $50 off of your first pair with code SARAHFLINT-BADANAW). But here’s a less expensive option as well.

A second option is to colorblock. Color blocking can be difficult, but the trick is to go with contrasting, complementary colors. For this dress, I wanted to do something bright pink, with green for a fun contrast.

Floral

As we all know, florals for spring is not groundbreaking. But it is fun! Floral dresses come in cuts that will work for everyone, so it shouldn’t be too hard for you to find a floral dress you love. This spring, floral midi dresses are a popular option so they’re going to be the easiest to find. (And yes, my fellow petites, you can wear midi dresses, you just need to buy one in petite sizing so the length is right.)

One of the things I love more about wearing florals is that you can go neutral with your shoes and accessories, but you can also pull out colors from your floral dress to pick out your purse and shoes. For this Lulu’s dress, I gave you two ways that you can style this dress, with pulling out colors of the dress or sticking with metallics (like gold). This dress would also work really well as a formal beach wedding guest dress (it’s a thing, apparently).

Silk Slip Dresses

Slip dresses came back last year and it doesn’t look like they’re going anywhere this year. However, this year, there seem to be more more cuts and colors to choose from for your dress. We aren’t stuck in dresses that still look like you should be wearing them to bed (or under your actual dress).

For accessorizing this dress, I suggest that pick more delicate pieces with simple shoe styles. If you go with chunky shoes, you run the risk of looking like you’ve gone back to the 90s. Chunky accessories can also overwhelm your dress. Simple is always better with a slip dress.

I threw a few satin dresses into the options below, for those of us for whom slip dress and satin dress mean the same thing.

Beach and Resort

I can’t decide if White Lotus made us all want to go to fancy resorts, or avoid them like the plague. Either way, resorts can be a popular option with brides because the resort will basically plan everything for you. Luckily, it seems like resort weddings and beach weddings have fairly overlapping styles.

Dress, Shoe, Clutch, Hoops, Bracelet

For a beach wedding guest dress, embrace the flow! And by that, I mean embrace a flowy dress (and the floral designs, it works very well for the beach). The light fabrics will make them more comfortable and allow for more of a breeze. As I mentioned years ago in this post, for anything near a beach, I suggest a flat or wedge option. You might not feel as dressed up at first, but when your heels aren’t sinking into the sand and you aren’t getting sand into your shoe, you’ll be happy with your decision.

Boho

It’s time for boho dresses for wedding guest. But you’re probably asking yourself, is there a difference between a boho dresses for a wedding guest dress and a beach wedding guest dress? Yes, it’s called crochet and macrame.

Dress, Heels, Clutch, Earrings, Ring

Boho has never really been my style, but that doesn’t mean I don’t love and appreciate the dresses in that style. When you’re looking for a boho dress, you’re looking for a few things: loose-fitting, crochet or lace, and light fabrics. Basically, if it’s at Free People, it’s a safe bet it’s boho.

I pulled some options below that I really like. The nice thing about boho is that they also have a lot of good options with sleeves (especially if it might be chilly!). For accessorizing these dresses, I would normally suggest sticking to the flats, wedges, or block heels. Especially if it’s in raffia like these heels! Personally, I just feel like a high heel will stick out like a sore thumb from the rest of the outfit.

Jumpsuit

I love a jumpsuit and no one can convince me otherwise (my husband is cringing while reading this). They’re more comfortable and you’ll easily look like the most fashionable person at the party.

This black and white option is so chic, it would look great any time of year. Also, I know that it has white in it, but the majority color is black, so you’re fine. I decided to keep it classic with black and white accessories, with a pop of color in the ring. But, it would also be fun to wear bright color shoes or a clutch.

You can really have fun with a jumpsuit option, so I highly suggest adding one into your wardrobe if you haven’t already. Adrianna Papell has great jumpsuits with classic cuts, so I would highly suggest looking there first (the brand is all over Macy’s, Nordstrom, and Amazon).
