I decided to go exploring this weekend since I had plenty of free time and a lot of DC that I haven’t seen. My boss suggested going to the Eastern Market and while I’ve never been the biggest fan of street markets,I love fresh produce and I needed to find new pearl earrings.
I am so happy that I went. It was a warm gorgeous day (which DC has plenty of apparently) and I was able to find nonfood things that interested me (I held myself back from buying jewelry though).
The food however, was the best part. There was an entire section devoted to fresh produce and you were able to walk up and down the aisle, sampling produce and trying to decide what to buy.
While I walked up and down the aisle, I was able to try some of the most delicious watermelon slices, cucumbers, apricots, apples, and hummus I have ever had.
(Cut up cucumbers with salt, pepper, and garlic powder – amazing, though some guy ruined my picture)
I then realized there was an entire food section inside, so I wandered inside to see what I could find there.
Not only was there more produce, but there were vendors selling fish, meat, pasta, baked goods, and other prepared foods. Needless to say, I was in heaven. I really wanted to buy my groceries there, but I wasn’t mentally ready to go grocery shopping (yes, I need to be mentally ready). I ended up giving in and buying some sliced watermelon (which I ate immediately), spinach and cheese ravioli, Parmesan cheese, and hummus. Even though I headed home before I could go crazy buying fruits and vegetables, I ended up going back there this morning to buy raspberries, strawberries, cucumbers, and other veggies.
I’m completely in love with this market and I will definitely be going back there to buy more food and try out the brunch places in the area.
(Cheese and Spinach Ravioli with some olive oil and Parmesan cheese – SO GOOD)
