Time to let you guys in on one of my (many) secrets. I’ve always been intrigued by teeth whitening. It’s not that I have bad teeth, my teeth are actually pretty good and aside from tea, I don’t drink many things that could stain my teeth. But, I’ve always wanted them to be a little whiter.
When I was younger (about high school I think), I actually tried out the strips and they were terrible. They slid everywhere and I couldn’t keep them on long enough for them to actually be effective. I then learned a little trick where after putting them on, I would then put my retainer (I had the clear plastic ones) in to hold them in place. This seemed to work well enough, but I never got the results I really wanted.
Honestly, since I wasn’t planning on paying for my dentist to do it, that whole experiment was put on the back burner.
Fast forward to June, where I was contacted by Smile Brilliant to ask if I wanted to try their whitening tools. I was a little hesitant, so I googled around to learn a little more about the product. I came across a blogger (that I trusted), who had not only tried out the product, but had run it by her relative who was a dental hygienist to see if it had her blessing.
So I nervously (and excitedly) said yes and decided to warily test out Smile Brilliant. Lucky for me, they made this entire process pretty easy. Instead of stripes or pre-made molds, they actually have you make a mold of your mouth for them to use to create the trays. They sent me this simple kit with easy instructions for creating the molds. Once I created the molds, I just sent them back to the company and anxiously awaited my trays.
Once I received the trays, it was pretty easy, just use the syringe to put the whitening gel into the trays and pop them on my teeth for 45 minutes (or up to 3 hours depending on how much time I had). Then use repeat but using the de-sensitizing gel for 20 minutes. I did this over the course of 2 weeks (7 treatments) and noticed visible brightness in my teeth.
(you can barely notice the trays on my teeth!)
The interesting thing about this brightening process is that it actually works to remove the stains to bring out your teeth’s natural whiteness. This means that at the end, everyone’s results will slightly vary. Knowing this, I went in not exactly sure what my teeth would look like at the end.
That being said, I’m pretty happy with the results. I was able to start seeing changes right away and the changes were noticeably visible. The only downside to this process was that I was actually pretty busy over the weeks that I was doing them, so I didn’t have as much time at home as I wanted. Next time I go through this process, I plan on starting it during a week when I have more time around my apartment and I’m able to leave the trays on more consistently.
