Remember that retail therapy that I mentioned in my May 2016 budget? Well, some of the clothes are still coming in, which means it time to review more 2019 summer styles!
2019 Summer Styles
BP. Smocked Midi Dress, Yellow Mustard Multi-Stripe, XXS
Like all BP items now, I sized down when I ordered this dress. I actually had two reasons for doing that though. First, BP items seem to run large, so I always have to order a size down. The second reason? Since I’m petite, midi and maxi dresses always run too long.
So what did I think about the dress? Oh my gosh, it’s so comfortable! I love how stretchy the top half is, which makes it easy to just pull on (no zippers necessary). The bottom half of the skirt is just as comfortable, which is also great. The only thing I couldn’t decide about is the stripes. I love the multi-stripes and the color, but all together, I was just eh on it. I wasn’t sure how much I would wear it.

BP. Smocked Midi Dress, Orange Clay XX-Small
When I saw that this dress also came in red though, I couldn’t resist! I know that this says “orange clay” but it’s really more of a bright red in person. I actually really loved the solid color and I know I’ll wear this a lot more.
Verdict: keep
Everlane The Summer Jean, Size: 25, Vintage Light Blue
As you already know from Monday’s post, I’m in love with these summer jeans. The denim is much more lightweight than regular denim. Additionally, the fit seems to be a combination of boyfriend jeans and straight leg, but it’s true to size, which was perfect. Now, I rolled mine up, but unrolled, it was full length on me and I’m exactly 5 feet. So for anyone else, this will be a cropped jean. Personally, I think it looks better that way anyways.
Verdict: Keep. Duh
J.Crew Eyelet Hem Sweatshirt, XS
I would go get a sweatshirt right when summer is starting. But let me tell you about this one! First, it’s adorable as you can see. The material is actually pretty light, so it’ll be easy to wear on a cooler summer night. The only thing I’m meh about is that I wish the neckline was closer to a crew neck.
Verdict: keep
J.Crew Factory Easy pull-on short, Firey Sunset, XS
I thought that these would be a fun pair of pull on shorts to wear on the weekend. And they are all of those things. Plus, they’re super comfortable. But they look like I’m wearing pajamas.
Verdict: Return
J.Crew Factory Printed flounce-hem dress, Astrid Dot Navy White, Size 0
I can’t decide how I feel about this dress. So, I love the cut and the color. but because it’s the tiniest bit too long, it’s doing this weird fold up at the waist. I don’t know if anyone would notice it but me, but it bothers me a little. The dress would be great for work though…
Verdict: Unsure.
J.Crew Factory Scalloped-hem top with overlapped back, White, XS
I thought I was getting this super cute semi cropped top that would be great for work. What I got was an oversized stiff shirt that felt like putting on a paper bag. Not great at all. Nor was it cute. I debated ordering it a size down and trying again, but I wasn’t motivated enough to do that.
J.Crew Factory Striped T-shirt Dress, Lilas Stripe, XS
I love a good, each outfit choice and this is the pinnacle of that! This dress is comfortable, cute, and it would be great for lazy weekends. It’s definitely a more relaxed fit and the material is really the equivalent of J.Crew Factory’s regular t-shirt material. They really nailed it on this one.
Verdict: Keep
Leith Ruched Body-Con Tank Dress, Charcoal, XS
Everyone has been raving about this dress for years and how good EVERYONE looks in it, but honestly everyone who had been raving about it was the same size (aka two sizes smaller than me), so that wasn’t really enough to sell me. But when I finally saw a different blogger try it on last month, she really sold me on the dress and how versatile it really was. And you know what? She’s right! All of the ruche-ing that I would normally shy away from on other dresses is a godsend on this one. It hides everything you want it to hide and just makes you look good.
Verdict: Keep
VERO MODA Anna Button Through Fit & Flare Dress, White, XS
Oh my gosh, this dress had so much potential and turned out to be so much of a hot mess. I don’t even know who they were trying to create this dress for. The only thing I could think of is that they must of created it for the model because there was at least two extra inches of fabric between my shoulders and the top of the dress. Also, the buttons just barely buttoned around my chest, but then were okay everywhere else.
Sorry Vera Moda that I’m not a tall skinny model.
