Remember how I spent most of May in a bit of a tired fog? Well apparently during that tired I did some online shopping. I hit up the sales racks at Abercrombie, J.Crew, and J.Crew Factory (though that’s to come later). I have to say, my post-fog self is pretty pleasantly surprised with what I ended up with (I finally snagged the seaside pants!). Also, my May 2017 Budget is coming out tomorrow, so this is basically your sneak peak at what’s going to be there tomorrow.

Abercrombie and Fitch Short-Sleeve Peplum Tee (Stripe), XS (Sold out, but similar top here)

I, Dana, fully admit that I have a fully blow obsession with loose peoplum tees. If you have a problem with it, well, get over it. And then scroll down two pictures. If you’re right there with me, keep reading. I stumbled across this one because I was still on my (never ending) hunt for a good white peplum tee. A&F had one (below), but I couldn’t resist trying on this one too! I love the color and I really appreciate that I don’t own anything in this shade of blue. This shirt feels a little shorter than other peplums that I’ve tried on, but it’s not cropped.

Verdict: Keep

Abercrombie and Fitch Short-Sleeve Peplum Tee (White), XS (Sold out, but similar top here)

Weren’t we just talking about a peplum tee? Oh right, we were. Okay, so this is the white version of the above top (duh). I think this may also be the one I’ve landed on. Length wise, it’s a little shorter than I was originally aiming for, but it’s not cropped. Also, at $14.40, it’s the best price I can get as opposed to making it myself. With that, I’m ending the white peplum tee hunt. Until we meet again friend.

Verdict: Keep

Abercrombie and Fitch Cotton Shirt, White Stripe, XS (Sold out, but similar top here and here)

Online, I wasn’t so sure about this shirt, but I can’t no to at least trying on a striped shirt. Into the cart it went! In person…I loved it from the second I put it on. It’s loose and light (perfect for DC summers). The sleeves are pretty close to a cap sleeve, which I normally dislike, but these sleeves are just a touch longer so it works. I do want to note though that the shirt is a tad sheer. Not too badly, but if you wanted to wear this to work, I would consider adding a cami underneath.

Verdict: Keep!

Abercrombie and Fitch Eyelet Dress, Yellow, XS (Sold out, similar dress here and here)

A yellow dress!? What’s wrong with me? Maybe I’ve finally watched Beauty and the Beast one too many times, but I’m giving yellow another chance. According to my mom (who I trust), I can pull off yellow as long as it’s just not bright or neon. Think more pale yellows or mustard yellows. Or this dress. Speaking of which, it’s great (if you ignore my bra straps, I was too lazy to change). It’s lined and the eyelet detail is super cute. The back of it is also made of the stretchy material so instead of zipping up on the back or side, you can just pull it over your head and you’re good to go. After looking at these pictures, I decided that the XS was a bit too small on me. I went to the stores and tried on the small in black (since yellow was out of stock there). I liked the fit of the small much better, so that’s being shipped me to me now!

Verdict: Exchanging for Small

 

Abercrombie and Fitch Tie Sleeve Shirt, XS (sold out, similar here)

The loose button up of my dreams! Except actually. This top is light and airy. A bit sheer, but not scandalously so. The tie sleeves make it a little trendy, but not enough that I won’t be able to keep wearing it for a while. Win win win. It is a little long when I don’t tuck it in, but I’m also a little short. I also front tuck most button ups I have, so I think it’ll be fine.

Verdict: Keep.

J.Crew Racerback Tank Top in Stripe, XS (Sold out, similar)

This tank top fell firmly into the category of “feels too nice to work out in but too meh to wear in real life.” Well, scratch that, it’d be fine to wear in real life, but I ordered it to work out in. Basically, I just couldn’t see myself working out in this tank top, so it was pointless for me. If you like it as a tank top though, the was comfortable and the material was really soft!

J.Crew Off-The-Shoulder Striped Sweater, XS (Sold out, similar)

I’m easing my way into this whole off-the-shoulder thing. You know me, if it’s too fussy, no way. But, there are some things that I still want to try. And if I can get a good deal on the top, then why not? Luckily, this top was a good deal and it was surprisingly not fussy! The top was banded, so the off-the-shoulder part stayed in place. The material was also a  little heavier, so it felt much nicer, but it was still breathable (the magic of 100% cotton). It’s on sale right now, but I was able to walk into the store and get it for $29.99 instead of $49.99 (which was much more worth it to me).

Verdict: Keep

J.Crew Seaside Pants, General Surplus, 2P and 0 comparison (Sold out, similar here and here)

Apparently today’s post is the day of crossing things off of my wishlist! This one? Comfortable green joggers! You’d think it’d be easy, but when you’re looking for a good price, good fit, comfortable material, and correct length….it’s terrible. I had heard from others that the seaside pants were great, so I ordered 3 different sides to find out. I didn’t include the 0P in the comparison above, but the major difference between that and the 2P was how tight around my thigh they were.

The difference between the 0 and 2P were crazy though. As you can see in the picture above, I was swimming in the 0 (the picture on the right in both comparisons). They were long and super baggy. The 2P found a great balance between length. It was also fitted but not tight around my hips and thighs. I decided to stick with the 2P and return the 0 and 0P.

Verdict: Keep (only the 2P)

There are three things to review here, so let’s take it slow. First: the active wear peplum. This tank was really thin, but surprisingly soft and comfortable. The back is low cut and a small panel of mesh and then the peplum skirt. I was ready to keep it, but i decided if I had to pick between this and the open active back tank, that would win. The Open Active Back Tank was so comfortable that I wore it for the rest of the evening. The fabric is super soft and breathable. Plus, while it looks like a basic halter, the back is open and it’s connected to the bottom by two thick straps. It sounds a little weird, but head over to the website to look. It was marked down a lot so I may have also gotten it in gray. I’m not sorry.

Finally, the J.Crew leggings. I wasn’t going to keep these at first. I tried them on with just a sports bra and felt meh about them. But I then tried them on with the black tank and loved them. They’re comfortable and true to size as far as activewear leggings go (I’ve tried on a lot of brands).

Verdict, Return, Keep, Keep.
