SBC: The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend

Note: I received a free advanced reading copy of this book for review. As always, all opinions are my own.

In 2015, I feel like I read a lot of books that were about readers and people who work in bookstores or libraries. Sometimes these books felt flat, but other times I was sucked in and taken on their fun weird journey.

The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend (out January 19th) was just that. A fun, weird ride that you’re ready to sign up for and see where it goes. Sara has traveled all the way from Sweden to Broken Wheel, Iowa to meet her pen pal Amy, only to find herself just in time for Amy’s funeral (it happens right away, so don’t worry, no spoilers). Since she had already planned to stay the summer, the town invites her to stay (“It’s what Amy would’ve wanted). To occupy her time, Sara decides to open up a bookstore in this tiny town and the townspeople respond with…confusion. To say the least. Obviously hijinks ensue and an immigrant worker gets involved, but the book stays fun the entire time.
My favorite part? All of the characters slowly discovering the joys of reading in the book reminded me of why I love reading.
