1. I used this website to see what the bestsellers were the weekend of my birthday. There were quite a few that I had heard of, but even more than I haven’t. I think this may be an interesting way to build a to read list.
2. I didn’t really need more of a reason to renew my Amazon prime membership, but this list would be a pretty good incentive to keep it if I needed one.
3. Really love the idea of the The Lemony Snicket Prize for Noble Librarians Faced With Adversity from the ALA. The list of prizes the winner gets makes it even better.
4. #SochiProblems. More embarrassing for the US than anyone else.
5. God’s Ark of Safety: A Maryland Roadside Oddity. Day-trip time? I think so.
6. This is a great campaign and is even more thought provoking after seeing We Are Proud at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company.
7. NFL Ugly Sweaters. Need now.
8. Shirley Temple Black, Hollywood’s Biggest Little Star, Dies at 85. I don’t think I ever realized how amazing of a person Shirley Temple really was. Here are some more pictures of her growing up.
9. After the link last week about the letter to Legos, it was really interesting to come across this article.
10. Go Idina! (And then hides in shame because I still haven’t seen Frozen even though I really want to).
11. “Regardless of anything in the books, the fact is that the author doesn’t owe the reader anything. You could want two characters to get together badly, but that doesn’t mean you’re owed it. What you’re owed is the book you paid cashy-money for. That’s it. That’s the end of the bargain. As Neil Gaiman once so aptly said, George R.R. Martin is not your bitch, and neither is J.K. Rowling, nor anyone else. She should write what she wants to write, and whether or not you agree with it is up to you.”
After all the talk from the JK reveal last week, it was a breath of fresh air to read this.
12. Billy Ray Cyrus Re-Releases ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ as Hip-Hop Jam. But, but, whyyyyyy?
13. This is terrible, but it’s also increasing my fascination (and fear) of sinkholes.
14. King Richard III Will Be the First Famous Historical Person Whose Genome Is Sequenced
15. Is it August yet??? I need to see this!
16. Benedict Cumberbatch, George Clooney And Other Celebs Read Out Mean Tweets About Themselves . Nice to see celebrities with a sense of humor. Also, I kind of love that they call out the people’s twitter handles.
TV: Some of my favorite shows come back really soon and I’m not sure how much longer I can wait. Especially with Once actors and directors constantly posting teasers.
Also, Olympics. Yes, I’m watching. Yes, I have a lot of feelings. Also, Meryl Davis.
