Sunday Book Club: Romance Reads

It’s funny, I’ve been reading more and more romance novels lately, but I don’t think I’ve really share that with you guys here. Well, other than my monthly reading lists. I was never really a romance reader. The most I really knew about the genre for the longest time were the sassy covers that I saw on my mom’s books when I was younger. (Love you mom!) But about two-ish years ago I started picking up romance novels and you know what? I realized that I really like them!

So I thought it would be fun to round up a few of my favorite romance novels and share them with you here! The majority are contemporary, but there are also a few historical and some young adult. What’s even better is that most of these are series, so if you really like them, you’ll get to keep reading more!

My Favorite Romance Novels

The Princess Plan by Julia London

I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review and I’m so happy I was! While this read had the potentially to turn out incredibly cheesy, it instead was incredibly fun.The story revolves around a Eliza, a woman who declared herself a “spinster” after the man who had promised to marry publicly announced he was marrying someone else. Now, a prince from another country is visiting London with the intent to find his next bride. Eliza ends up becoming entangled with the prince while trying to find the criminal behind his friend’s murder. From secret tunnels to murder plots, this novel ended up having all of the elements you would need to turn this romance novel from straight romance into a fun murder mystery. I especially enjoyed how Eliza’s sister’s printing press with “womanly advice” and gossip was woven into the plot’s narrative for hilarious commentary. While the murder mystery could have also seemed extraneous, it instead made the novel even more enjoyable. I don’t know if I would reread this novel, but I certainly plan on reading thenext one.

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon (Series)

I don’t know if anyone realizes how much they need a Scotsman in their life until they read this novel (or rather this series). When you hear the plot of this novel, it sounds a bit absurd. A novel about a woman in the 1940s who touches some stones and time travels back to the 1700s where she meets a hot Scot and stays there? Weird right? Yes. But they’ll you’ll probably fall in love with it like I did. It’s Historical Fiction romance and you’ll learn a lot about Scotland, France, and England in the 1700s. But you’ll also get a lot of really steamy scenes, so I think it balances out.

Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

Imagine if the President of the US had a son and the Queen of England had a son and they fell in love? What would happen? This book. This book is AMAZING. It is so unbelievably good and you basically need to go read it immediately. Dare I say it was one of my favorite books of the year?

The Kiss Quotient (The Kiss Quotient #1) by Helen Hoang

Sometimes books can surprise me and this romance read certainly surprised me. The Kiss Quotient is about a genius autistic woman who decides that the only way she can ever learn to be in a romantic relationship is if she hires a male call boy to train her how to. Hopefully, I think you can see where this is going. It was so sweet and touching. It’s also an interesting read about Autism and how it can affect one’s life, even when you don’t realize it.

The Kissing Booth (The Kissing Booth #1) by Beth Reekles

Have you watched the Netflix movie of this? You know how that is so bad it’s good? Well this book is the same way. It’s so terrible, it’s amazing. It essentially follows the same main plot of the book, but there are some main changes to it. (I won’t spoil them though!)

Paper Princess (The Royals #1) by Erin Watt

If the Kissing Booth is so bad, it’s good, this one is so terrible, it’s just smutty. Which means it’s absolutely addicting. The whole series is. It’s crazy. I don’t even know what to do with it.

Roomies by Christina Lauren

You know what’s fun? A romance novel with a fun plot that you can really get into. That’s how I felt about Roomies. I loved the characters, I loved how Broadway was tied into it, and it was overall just a fun read.

The Right Swipe (Modern Love #1) by Alisha Rai

The Wedding Party (The Wedding Date #3) by Jasmine Guillory

Jasmine Guillory is like the queen of romance novels revolving around weddings. Though that may just be because her series is an off shoot about one couple? Either way, I think her third novel might be my favorite so far of her four? It might also be tied with the fourth for my favorite, but as i said in my November (maybe October?) reading list, I just don’t want to read about my mom or grandmother having sex. I’m fully aware that it happens, but that doesn’t mean I want to think about it. ANYWAYS. The Wedding Party is about two enemies who share a best friend. That hasn’t stopped them from hating each other though Unfortunately, they’re now both in the wedding party for that friend so they can’t avoid each other. Which isn’t really a bad thing now that they’ve started hooking up.

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

What? Another book where two people who hate each other maybe start falling in love? What a crazy unique book! I can’t help it though, this one was too much fun as well. Maybe it was because it was in the publishing world or I enjoyed the quirky main character, but it was such a fun read!
