I haven’t blogged in so long that I don’t know if I fully remember how to do this. I have so much to share and so much has happened since I last logged on here, but let’s get into that another time. Right now I want to focus on what I’ve been thinking about a lot lately: postpartum shopping. I’m almost six months out from giving birth and I’m still trying to figure out my new body. I’m completely over wearing my maternity clothes, but I don’t fit in my old clothes yet. But I’m still actively working on losing the weight I gained during pregnancy, so I know my body is going to keep changing. It puts me in this really weird place where I don’t want to spend a lot of money on new clothing. BUT I do need clothing to wear during the summer.
Before I get to the pictures and clothing, I want to add that I really struggled with whether or not to put up this post and pictures. I changed my mind five different times and I’m still struggling with it. I’m still not very comfortable with my body in its current state. I know and have heard everything about giving my body a break, I grew and gave birth to a child! And that’s all true, but it’s still really hard to see your body in the mirror and not recognize it. It can make the idea of getting dressed in anything but sweatpants down right scary. The idea of posting those pictures for all to see on the internet? Terrifying.
But this is where my body is right now and there’s nothing I can really do except keep moving and find some clothes that make me happy.

Old Navy Extra High-Waisted PowerSoft Skort, Ditsy Floral, Size: S
I’m obsessed with this skort. I haven’t done a skort in a while, but right now I’m fully in favor of having the built in shorts (the shorts are a solid green color, not print). Even though this is an “activewear” skirt, I’m planning on wearing it as an everyday skirt.
Verdict: Keep
Boden Hampstead Linen Shorts, NAVY, Size 6
I’m a little torn on these shorts right now. The pros? They’re super comfortable and they have a stretchy waist. The cons? They’re $90, which is a lot for shorts. But it’s also really hard to find good shorts, so I need to think about them.
Verdict: Undecided.
J.Crew Seaside cargo short in linen, white, Size: 6
Nope nope nope. These shorts are SEE THROUGH. Yes, I know that I wore black underwear when I tried them on, but these would be see through with any color underwear. Also, they were pretty tight and I’m aiming for comfort.
Verdict: Return
J.Crew Tropez short in linen, White, Size: S
Not as see through, but still a tiny bit. These would be fine with nude colored underwear. These also have a stretchy waist, so they’re definitely comfortable. (Key to postpartum shopping? Stretchy waist.) I can’t decide though if the wrinkles will drive me crazy or I’ll get use to it. I love the look for white shorts, but is this incredibly impractical right now?
Verdict: Probably Return
J.Crew Tropez chambray short, Blue, Size: S
Another comfortable pair of shorts, but I felt like I’m too short for them. Why? Well there is A LOT of space between the waist band and where the pants leg split is. Once I made them high waist shorts (yay stretchy waist band), I liked them a little bit more. These will also go with a bunch of different things, so they made be a good pair to keep.
Verdict: Keep…I think
J.Crew High neck tank top in striped stretch linen blend, White Stripe, Size: S
I liked this top when I first tried it on and looking at the pictures, I still kind of like it…but I don’t love the linen blend. If I kept this top, I feel like I would wear it once and then be over it.
Verdict: Return
J.Crew Capitaine shirt in Baird McNutt Irish linen, White, S
Another top I have mixed feelings on. It’s loose and breathable, so it’ll be good for gross DC summers. But when it’s not styled, I don’t love it. I think that if I actually style it, I’ll like it more.
Verdict: Keep
J.Crew Classic double gauze shirt, Navy, Size: 4
Another top I’m not a fan of when it’s not styled. BUT this top is really comfortable and breathable. The double gauze material also makes it stretchy. However, I don’t think I can see myself wearing it that much. I have this top in white and I think I would get more wear out of it.
Verdict: Return
J.Crew Classic fit embroidered strawberry T shirt, Stripe, Size: S
I love a striped shirt and the little strawberry detail is super cute. When I tried it on, I felt like the shoulders might have been a little big, but looking at the pictures now, it looks okay. It’ll be an easy and fun top to wear.
Verdict: Keep
J.Crew Pima cotton scoopneck tank top in stripe, S
If you haven’t tried pima cotton material yet, you’re really missing out. Pima is so soft and so comfortable, I would happily have all of my clothes made out of this material. That being said, I don’t love this tank top. It feels a little sloppier than I want and I don’t love the neckline. Yes, it looks fine, but I prefer a halter cut.
That’s all for my postpartum shopping so far. I’ve placed a few more orders, so I’ll make sure to share once they come in.
Also, if you’re curious if there are more blog posts to come, my answer is yes. If you’re curious if the newsletter is coming back, the answer is yes. I’m still figuring out what I want to do with both, but the posting is going to start again!
