The Nighttime Work Holiday Party
Alright, well I’ve saved the biggest challenge for last. The nighttime work holiday party. We’re venturing out of the office and into the great unknown.
Okay, actually, we’re probably just going to a restaurant or bar. But either way, you got to take it up a notch (I need to stop staying that). It’s time to bring out the class. So how are we going to do it? Let’s go.

This occasion seems intimidating, but it’s actually not! You just need to figure out a few easy things and follow a few rules. Then you’ll be good to go! I promise, I’ll make it easy for you.
What You Need to Know
The Dress Code
Have I not drilled this into your head yet? Figure out the dress code. The easiest way to do this for your office party is to just ask a coworker who has been before what to wear. Or ask another co-worker (preferably a few years older) what’s appropriate to wear.
Where it is
Okay, this was totally a joke, but you should really know where you’re going. Honestly, just know where the dress code is and where you need to go. Let’s just get to the rules.
The Rules for Getting Dressed for a Nighttime Work Holiday Party
Keep it Modest
I know it’s a party, but it’s a party with your work colleagues. You still have to see them at work the next day. So if you think that skirt is too short for work, it’s probably too short for your holiday party. Instead of going for a shorter skirt, think of going for something with glitter or sequins. Or try a fuller a-line skirt.
Keep it Classy
Avoid backless, strapless, braless….just anything that includes the word “less”. Okay, I’ll make an exception for sleeveless. Sleeveless is fine. But everything else? Just save it for New Years.
How to Pick Your Outfit
Alright, so you know all of the tricks….but how do you actually pick out what you’re going to wear? Well, I promised you it was super easy, so it’s time for you to learn the trick. If your party is just dressy, you can look for pieces with cuts similar to your work wear, but a little more festive: gold, sequin, shimmer, glitter, etc. For instance, the dress I’m wearing in this picture is a fairly basic fit and flare style. But the silver thread woven into it gives it a little more glimmer and makes it more holiday friendly.
Here are a few pieces that would be perfect for a nighttime work holiday party!
So are you ready to get your holiday outfit ready? What do you think you’re going to wear?
