Ever since I talked about my word of the year for 2018, I thought I should do some follow up. I thought it would only be fair if I gave you a little bit of an update on my life. Then share based on that what I have in store for my 2018 word.
Which if you already forgot, is “challenge.”

The Blog
This is the best place to start, since I already talked about this a little last week. 2017 was when I really started to take a few steps back and look at Something Good. I felt like I could either keep tinkering around with it or really start pushing it. Being the type A I am, I went with push. For me that meant investing in courses. I can be a bit of a course junkie though, so I wanted to invest in classes that I knew I would take and would actually help.
My first big purchase was The Strategy Academy, which is run by the amazing women at Think Creative Collective. I’ve worked with the two of them for quite some time and really trust them with, well, my business baby. This was a huge investment that is still paying off. It helped me with a complete mindset shift and they helped me redefine the work I’ve been doing, and really why I’ve been doing it. I did the course back in the summer, but I’m actually going through it again this January, to help re-align me again. Plus, I think it’ll challenge me to dig a little deeper and help me push through some new goals I want to conquer.
In the two weeks before 2018, I decided to make one more big investment towards my blog. This investment was joining the 90 Day Year program. This program is designed around goal setting and then helped you achieve those goals in a set amount of time. This course is going to take up a big chunk of the first three months of the year and is going to make the first three months incredibly difficult. But hopefully also rewarding. Why? Well, it’s giving me more work to do for the blog…but it’s also giving me a better way to work and achieve more.
I’m really challenging myself to think in new ways about project management when it comes to Something Good and I have a feeling it’s going to help with creating more meaningful content here for you.
Dating
Ugh. Just saying that I’m dating in DC means I’m living the word “challenge”, right? Except really. I thought I did okay with the whole dating thing last year (aka I actually went on dates), but then the year ended kind of lousy. (I was seeing a guy that I really liked, but then he ghosted me.) So what am I going to do challenge myself this year? The same thing, but better. Haha. I’m serious though. I know myself, I know what I want more with every date, and I’m not taking good advice (aka Matthew Hussey).
So in case you’ve been wondering for a while, that also serves as your dating update: Yes, I’m still single. Brands, please stop emailing me about wedding dress websites.
Fitness/Wellness
It’s the beginning of the year, so it’s on everyone’s mind, right? I started out last year with a sprained ankle and a giant boot on my foot, so really, I already figure I’m a head this year. I actually feel pretty settled in this area, so it’s just making sure that I don’t get complacent here. Luckily, Pure Barre decided to start this year with a 40 in 60 challenge. I can’t not do a challenge, so that will at least help for the first few months. I’m also about 40 classes away from hitting my 750th class at Pure Barre DC, so I would love to do that by March 1st.
I’d also like to get back to yoga and meditation this year. Last year, I essentially stopped doing yoga because of my ankle and then never got back into it. I miss it though and I get free classes from a local studio, so it’s time to get back in. In tandem with that, I had started an okay meditation practice but then fell off of the wagon. I know if I can find a place to put it into my routine I’ll do it, I just need to decide what that place is.
Career
Remember, that thing I do full time when I’m not working on the blog? Right, that job thing. Well, the good news is, I still love it. So that’s great. But since I’ve gotten comfortable in it, I feel like I just did a full stop on networking. Which isn’t good. I feel like I don’t really know people in my field anymore and which I miss. I loved getting to meet other people, hear about their projects and companies. Just getting to meet other people with similar careers interested in similar things.
Just because I’m not job hunting doesn’t mean I should stop and I want to find a way to get back into it. Large events aren’t really my style though, so I’m going to start looking into more one on one opportunities offered in DC. Luckily there are so many arts/nonprofits organizations here, there has to be something!
It’s a lot of challenges for just the next few months, but I’m looking forward to it. These were all things that I had started to put into places back in November/December, so I’m glad to see them all hit full speed at this point.
If you have a word of the year, a resolution, or a goal, I’d love to hear what it is! I think it’d be great if we could all cheer each other on and help one another out.
