Miracle Creek by Angie Kim
Two-Sentence Summary
Miracle Creek by Angie Kim covers the courtroom trial of Elizabeth, a woman accused of murdering her child by setting fire to the space where her autistic child was receiving treatment. The book moves back and forth between the trial and the past to help unfold the events through the voices of all of those involved.
What I liked Most and What Frustrated Me
I loved a mystery where I can’t actually figure out what happens. I always feel like a book is the best when you can let yourself just go and get into the book. You can just let the mystery unfold in front of you and you aren’t constantly pulling yourself out to try to guess what’s going to happen next.
Miracle Creek was really one of those books with me. I think what really helped that narrative was that it continued to move back and forth between the court case and the past. That way, as soon as you started to guess, you were pulled back to another event that flipped your views.
What frustrated me (but I guess also helped the novel??) was that there was only one or two characters that I consistently liked throughout the book. Every other character I went back and forth between liking and thinking they were a lying, terrible person. Luckily, that one character worked as an anchor for me and held me on throughout the entire novel.

RECOMMENDED FOR
I think that this novel would be great for anyone who loves mysteries (but maybe not hardcore thrillers) or courtroom dramas. It’s also great for people who are fans of family dramas.
I think that if someone enjoyed Little Fires Everywhere, they would also enjoy this novel.

I would give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars. I really enjoyed reading it, but I don’t know if I would go back and re-read it in the future.
