Sunday Book Club: June 2019 Reading List

It was a light reading month…or at least what I would consider a light reading month. Between work and travel and running around my brain just needed a lot of brain candy. Some of it came in the form of reading. Truthfully, a lot of it came in the form of Bravo and sleep. However, it also meant that I had no time for books that weren’t entertaining. So I at least really enjoyed most of what I read on my June 2019 reading list

June 2019 Reading List

There’s Something About Sweetie by Sandhya Menon

I’m on board for whatever Menon gives me. I don’t think she’s ever steered me wrong. There’s Something About Sweetie is the follow up to When Dimple Met Rishi and it’s the perfect follow up! It had everything a YA rom com needs and the main character Sweetie is the best. She’s honestly the role model most girls need in their life.

The Bride Test by Helen Hoang

I love how Hoang has taken the romance genre and made it her own. Through making one of the protagonists autistic, she’s found a way to change up the genre and make it even more fascinating. Her second book is almost as good as the first (I think her first might still be my favorite), but I still highly recommend reading it.

The Deceivers by Kristen Simmons

How do I keep end up reading about teenage detectives? (See my April Reading List.) Or I guess in this case it’s teenage spies. This book is about a girl who gets accepted into a school for spies, where she’s assigned a special case to carry out. It was intriguing enough that I kept listening to the audiobook. I thought it may be a standalone book, but it turns out that the next book is scheduled to come out in 2020. So I guess we’ll see!

The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai

Everyone kept talking about how good this book was, so I kind of went into reading (listening) to it blindly, forgetting what it was actually about. I’m glad that it happened that way, because it ended up completely blowing me away. It was an amazing story that went back and forth between the 90s and 2015, telling the story of the AIDS outbreak in Chicago and a woman traveling to Paris in present times. As the book goes deeper you find out how the two connect in the most amazing way.

Miracle Creek by Angie Kim

I’m not going to do my full review of the book now, since Anne and I will be doing our book link up for it on July 7th, but I do want to share that I really liked it!

Also, if you want to join our link up, you don’t have to share a review of Miracle Creek! You can link up any books post that you’ve written recently!

The Summer of Jordi Perez by Amy Spalding

Okay, for a half a second I completely forgot what the plot of this book was. But once I remembered, I remembered how cute this book was! It’s about a girl who is spending her summer interning for a local Modcloth-like shop. It’s also there that she finds the girl that she actually thinks she could have her first kiss with. This is such a good YA beach read if that’s what you’re looking for this summer.

The Favorite Sister by Jessica Knoll

Love watching any of the Housewives franchises? You’ll love reading this book. It’s the perfect look at the behind the scenes of a housewives series that’s in the process of filming. But at the same time you’re getting the present day perspective of cast members as they look back on filming that season and how it all ended up going wrong. Also how they never saw her death coming.

Americanized by Sara Saedi

I loved this book by Saedi of her story growing up in America and how she found out that she was an illegal immigrant. It was a fascinating look at the process of becoming a legal immigrant in the United States from the perspective of a child. Her writing was also just hilarious as were some of her stories from growing up.

Now I have a long list of books ready to read this June, so it’s time for me to get reading!
