Accessorizing scares me a little. There, I said it. It’s scary. You want to add a little extra something to your outfit, but you don’t want to do too much. But how much is too much? And how can you be the girl rocking the statement earrings, but not go overboard?
It’s a tough balance, but recently, I’ve been getting the urge to have a little more fun with my earrings and hair accessories. Except it means I have to relearn accessorizing with these items all over again. I feel like I have it down for necklaces and rings, but earrings are a whole new battle.

Relearning How to Accessorize With Jewelry and Hair Accessories
Do I really have to start at the beginning? Well, no. I mean, I’ve worn earrings before. I’ve also put a bow in my hair. So I think that in this case, we’re really starting in the middle-ish.
Slowly Grow The Size of Your Earrings
I’m used to wearing (faux) pearl studs on a daily basis, so I’m not going to jump into wearing crazy dangling earrings immediately. Nope. I eased myself into it with crawlers, very small light earrings, and a few dangle-y ones.
You Don’t Actually Have To Go Crazy
I love the hoops that I’m wearing in these pictures. They’re cute and colorful, but they aren’t overwhelming. I’ve also found a few other pairs that are fun and colorful, but not out of my comfort zone.
Don’t Buy Anything That Will Bother You
I don’t actually want to wear big earrings. Heavy earrings will bother the heck out of me. I also have no desire to see my ear lobes dragged down. Also, I can deal with an earring bumping into my cheek or neck sometimes, but almost hitting my shoulder or being so annoying that it scratches my neck? Nope.
When It Comes to Accessorizing, Start With One and Build From There
I think we’ve talked about this before with necklaces, but I always think that if you’re going to have one focus accessory, do that and then go simple or none on everything else. So if you have fancy earrings, you can skip the necklace, and maybe stick with a basic ring or two. Have a fun necklace? Stick with simple earrings. Less is always more!
Act and Wear Your Age
Now that I’m in my (gasp) 30s, I guess it’s important to remember to act and dress my age most of the time. What does that mean exactly for me? Well, when it comes to accessorizing, just knowing the occasion and what’s actually appropriate. When it comes to my hair, knowing what kind of a bow is and isn’t appropriate. Even though I’m 30, I still look a lot younger, and a big old bow isn’t going to help that. But, if the rest of my outfit is styled correctly, a smaller bow in my hair can look cute, but not over do it.
I hope this was fun and some what informative. Are you a jewelry wearer? Do you keep it simple or do you like big, fun accessories?
