Both Anne and I have had this book on our TBR list forever. We both also kept putting off reading it. So we decided it was time to finally bite the bullet and make it our March Blogger Reads book. That was the only way to ensure we would both read it, after all.
I don’t know what I was expecting with this book, but man, it really hit me in the feels. Like, all of the feels.
I’m Fine and Neither Are You by Camille Pagán
TWO SENTENCE SUMMARY
I’m Fine and Neither Are You is about Penny, a hard-working mom and co-worker, who has never really doubted most of her choices in life. But when a massive change occurs, she starts to reevaluate most of the choices in her life, starting with her marriage.
WHAT I LIKED MOST AND WHAT FRUSTRATED ME
What I really loved about this book (but what also really surprised me) was that based on the cover, I thought I was going into a rom-comy book, but what I got was a really honest and open book about a woman dealing with a massive disruption to her life. This book was fiction, but the Penny’s emotions just felt so real. Nothing in the book really felt like it came out of left field. (Also for the record, I would have known it wasn’t a rom-com if I had just read the description. But sometimes, I like going back to a book without re-reading the description.)
I think the only thing that really frustrated me was only really specific part in the book that was regarding Penny’s career and an opportunity to advance. Penny works in the same field as me (fundraising) and there were so many times when I wanted to shout to her what to do about her career choices because they were what I would have done. It obviously wasn’t necessarily right for her, but part of me wanted those opportunities, so it was rough to see someone doubt the opportunity to take them.

I would spackle over my exhaustion with concealer and caffeinate myself into—well, if not a charismatic state, then a competent one
I’m Fine and Neither Are You
This is not a test. Life is messy and sometimes tragic and often just plain hard for a woman to weather. But when you step back for a moment, the whole of it is incredibly beautiful—and that is what we must choose to focus on.

RECOMMENDED FOR
I would recommend this book for people who enjoyed books like Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine, The Bookish Life of Nina Hill, and Evvie Drake Starts Over. Aka women who you can really love and cheer for with a story that gives you all the feels (but has some fun moments as well).
STAR RATING
