Do Something Good
When things are starting to get bad, it’s always interesting to see how companies react. If they’ll take a stance on a political issue or if they’ll sink into the background. Or if they’ll say some wishy washy statement and get more backlash than if they had said nothing.
One of the things I really like to see is when companies actually start to do things instead of just saying them. Today, that company is Mattel. For the first time ever, Mattel is producing a Barbie who wears a Hijab. Olympic fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad has teamed up with Mattel to create a Barbie designed after her. As she worked with Mattel, she made sure they were creating a doll that truly represented her: from more athletic thighs to wearing a Hijab. The result? A doll that Ibtihaj always wanted, but could never have growing up.
Ibtihaj’s Barbie won’t be available until 2018, but I can’t wait for it to arrive!
