Hey all, I’m overloaded with work this week, so I have some of my blogger friends guest posting this week to help me out. I’ll still be posting to twitter, instagram, and facebook this week though, so make sure to follow me over there!
Today Monica from Cake and Lilies will be guest posting for me. I met Monica over a year ago at a blogging event and I’ve been following her blog since then. I love her classy style and how down to earth she is. She’s not only been a great blogger to follow, but also such a good friend.
5 Summer Essentials
Hi guys! I’m so excited to be dropping in today while Dana is away! Given that it’s truly starting to feel like summer out there, I thought I’d share my five essentials for this time of year. It’s hard to narrow them down (shorts! sundresses! all the sandals!) but outside the aforementioned, here are a handful of other things I know I’ll find myself reaching for constantly over the next few months…
White Jeans: Question. How many people still follow the “no white before Memorial Day/no white after Labor Day” rule? Seems to be fewer and fewer each year! Depending on how you style them, white jeans can be a workhorse in your wardrobe year-round and be a go-to closet staple right about now. Easily dressed up or down, they go with everything (just pack a Tide pen!), and will keep you cooler than your favorite dark pair of denim.
Breezy Popover: One of the many styles I’ve grown to love over the past couple of years is the tucked in shirt look. A looser button down or popover looks great slightly tucked into a pair of denim (blue or white, don’t discriminate!) and tucked fully into skirts (paired with slightly open-toe wedges, this is a great summer look for the workplace!). Try to stick with cotton; they also make great swimsuit coverups and are usually machine washable!
Go-with-everything sandals: Once you find a pair that’s comfy, fits right, and goes with everything, having a go-to pair of sandals is the best feeling! Anyone else work in an office where you can sorta kinda get away with a nicer pair? I’d stick with neutrals like tan, navy, or black.
Everyday sunglasses: I’m partial to Ray Bans but any pair of neutral sunglasses–budget friendly to investment– is a summer essential. Don’t forget the case though, because crushing your favorites in your large tote isn’t a good way to celebrate the season!
A light shawl: Because despite the fact that it’s 90+ degrees outside, the likelihood you’ll venture into a freezing restaurant, an over AC-ed friend’s apartment, or get stuck in a summer shower is higher than one might think.
So that’s my list… what’s yours?! Anything a little more unconventional? Thanks Dana, for having me today! 🙂
