I’m a few weeks behind on this one, but hey, there’s a lot of news in the world. Either way, good news a month later is still something good.

Gina Rodriguez may have not gotten any Emmy nods this year (that’s clearly not the good news), but she has something better. This year. Gina Rodriguez decided to instead use her 2018 campaign money to fund a college scholarship for an undocumented high school student.

Rodriguez worked with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles to find an applicant. The winner? A young woman headed to Princeton University who will now be able to complete all four years without worrying about about financials.

Will the Gina Rodriguez Emmy campaign scholarship money cause a trend? Sadly, probably not. But it would be awesome if it did. After all, Modern Family really doesn’t need a 47th win.
