Do Good
One of my favorite parts of the summer is all of the farmers’ markets that open! I love browsing all of the produce selections and picking out my favorite fruits and veggies for the week. Also, a lot of the farmers’ markets in DC include vendors that sell everything from chocolate milk to single serving bread pudding. It’s great to shop at these because it allows you to buy the produce directly from the farmer. In DC, the major farmers markets are organized by FreshFarm Market, a nonprofit in DC. They not only host the farmers’ markets, but they also educate the community about sustainable agriculture.
How can you get involved in your community? Easy! Find and shop your local market! Want to make sure your farmers’ market keeps going? See if they accept donations to support the market as a whole. For instance, since FreshFarms is a nonprofit, they allow you to support them through online donations.
