Shoes are my love language. Don’t believe me? Just look at my closet (this is now two closets ago and I really miss this closet, btw.) I love how you can use shoes to completely change an outfit and I’m all for doing a completely neutral outfit with a fun pair of shoes.
My already established basic-ness also means that I love the shoes that are popular in the fall (especially this year!). There are so many fun styles out and all of them can be worn different ways.
Here are my favorite popular styles for the fall:
Ballet Flats and Mary Janes!
If you just looked at the pictures of my closet, then it’s pretty obvious that I love a good ballet flat. Or any flat really. They’re my go-to shoes for most occasions and they can work with most outfits. This season, people are very into the rounded toe or rounded-square style, but I say that if you prefer pointed flats, that’s okay too. Mary Janes are also super popular this year and they’re available in just about every fabric and color you could dream of.
- I’m always a fan of Everlane shoes and this pair is no exception. I picked them up in cognac and black last year and they’re still winners. Just a warning, size up about a half size. I was a little surprised by that, but going from 6 to 6.5 made a world of difference.
- Mary Janes made a comeback last year and they’re still popular this year!
- Never underestimate a pair of shoes from Madewell. This pair will last for years and go with everything.
- This pair of mary janes come in just about every color you could want.
- If you want to go with the classic pink color, this J.Crew pair is for you!
- Want to mix it up a little bit? These leopard Mary Janes are so much fun and a perfect twist on this style.
Loafers
Did I save the best for last? Maybe. I just love a good loafer. Whether it’s a regular loafer or loafer mule, I’m all in.
- This pair is hands down my favorite pair. They were a little more expensive than I would normally want to spend BUT there was zero break in period. They were comfortable from the get go and they look good with every outfit. I have the cognac color, but it’s available in so many different options, you can’t go wrong.
- Madewell shoes can sometimes take time to break in, but once you’ve done it, they’re so comfortable. This pair keeps going on sale, so snap it up while you can!
- As I’ve mentioned multiple times, I love a loafer mule. This is a great option at an excellent price.
Moto Boots
I feel like I’m going to just say every category of shoes is my favorite….but it’s not wrong. I love everything about the options for fall shoes. Moto boots are probably one of my more recent loves, but that love has still been going for years. Moto boots are a great option that are a bit more casual, but can add a bit of edge to your outfit. I also love how durable they are, so you can wear them well into winter.
- When it comes to moto boots, you first need to decide one thing (besides what color): do you want a plain pair, more hardware, or straps? If straps are what you want, this is a great pair.
- This option has a bit of a heel, which I wouldn’t normally go for, but I like it here.
- If you’re interested in less buckles and straps, this is a good pair that can also serve as rain boots!
- This is one of the most classic pair of moto boots and it’s marked down!
- If you’re not ready to spend a lot of money, this pair is perfect for testing the moto boots trend at a lower cost.
Riding Boots
Riding boots have been “out of style” for the last few years and I hated it. I feel like they’re such a necessity when you want your outfit to look pulled together, even when it’s snowing or raining outside. The alternatives that were “in style” just didn’t do it for me, so I ignored everyone and just kept wearing my riding boots. Luckily, my persistence paid off and they’re back in style again!
- If you want to try out this trend and you aren’t sure about it yet, start with these boots from Target. I had a pair of riding boots from Target that lasted me at least two or three seasons, so this is a great way to save money!
- This pair from DSW is also great to try out if you want an under $100 option. Plus it has the stretch back, so it’s good if you need a wider calf (like me!).
- If you’re ready to just dive in, this pair from Sam Edelman looks so cute! They have it in black and cognac, so you can find the color that’s perfect for you.
- I love Franco Sarto shoes. They’re always so stylish and last for such a long time. The price for this pair varies, but they have it in a lot of colors!
- If you want a little bit more of a heel, J.Crew and Madewell are ready for you! I love this dark oak color for work. This pair from Madewell is just a classic that will last you for years.
Sneakers
I don’t know when I started loving sneakers again, but I’m all about them right now. A white sneaker is classic, but I also love the fun designs and options that are out there.
- The Sambas were popular this year and I feel like people got a little sick of them. But I just say if you’re sick of the white one, go for a fun color! This green or maroon pair would go with all of your fall clothes. If you want to go with the more on-trend pair, aim for the Adidas Gazelle.
- Ked’s are my go-to when it comes to cute and fun designs. The Keds x Rifle Paper is my favorite line, but there are so many other good options around. Also, this is the last season that they’re doing a collaboration, so get yourself a pair now if you love them!
- A sneaker with a plaid bow? I’m in.
- Fall is the perfect time to start pulling out some plaid sneakers. I love this adorable plaid option and this one.
- I’ve had these Everlane Court sneakers for years and they’ve always served me well.
- Everlane just came out with this leather sneaker option and I love them.
- Don’t sleep on the classic favorite of the Reebok style! Madewell has this cute pair and I love the J.Crew take on it as well.
- It would be absolutely silly of me to not mention Kizik’s. Kizik’s makes only sneakers, BUT they’re pretty special because you can easily slide your feet into them without bending down to tie your shoes. As a pregnant woman, this is a MAJOR bonus for me. I got my first pair a week ago and I’m already obsessed with them.
