Sunday Book Club: Fall 2019 Book Releases

Back in June I had the privilege of going to the American Library Association Annual Conference. It’s basically a book lovers’ dream. You’re surrounded by advanced releases of all of the fall 2019 book releases and you’re being encouraged to TAKE them. I basically loaded up on books and then had no idea where to start. Well, I had some idea where to start. There were some books I knew I wanted to read immediately and some I wanted to put aside for a bit.

Regardless, I’m so excited to share this post with you. It’s a list of all of the upcoming Fall books. I started with the beginning of September (so some of these books are out already) and I go through the end-ish of November, since that’s when new releases really start to peter off.

I’ve added a few blurbs for the ones I’m really excited for, but some I’ve just provided links for because I think their description sounds really interesting. Also, I’ve added a ** if I think it’s worth an order or pre-order. But note, that I think all of these books are worth reading, I’ve only included the Fall 2019 New Book Releases that are worth reading. Just maybe you should get some of them from your library instead of ordering.

September 3rd

American Royals by Katharine McGee**

I’ve raved about this one on instagram and my rave still stands. I read this book in almost one sitting and I’m already counting down until the sequel in Fall 2020.

I was a big fan of Choi’s last novel, Emergency Contact, so I have no doubt that her next book will be just as good. She’s been compared to Rainbow Rowell multiple times and I definitely agree with that comparison

My Time Among the Whites: Notes from an Unfinished Education by Jennine Capo Crucet

The Secrets We Kept by Lara Prescott

The Words Between Us by Erin Bartels

Well Met by Jen DeLuca

I just finished this book the other day and it’s so cute! It’s fun romance novel that takes place around a small town’s Renassiance Faire. Even if you aren’t into Renassiance Faires, this might make you want to go to one.

The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix Harrow

I love any sort of fairy tale retelling and that’s what you’re getting with this book. I’m in.

The Testaments by Margaret Atwood**

Duh you have to buy this. It’s the sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale that no one was expecting. I expected to have it finished by now, but due to a payment mess up, my copy didn’t arrive until I was on a work trip, so my reading plans were delayed. Don’t worry though, my review will come soon!

Red at the Bone by Jaqueline Woodson**

Everything Woodson writes is so beautiful, I wouldn’t pass up any novel written by her.

The Seven Necessary Sins for Women and Girls by Mona Eltahawy

The Official Downton Abbey Cookbook by Annie Gray

Anyone else excited for the movie? Yes? Now you see why I couldn’t leave this off of the list.

A DREAM SO DARK (A BLADE SO BLACK) by L.L. MCKINNEY

A Blade So Black was a modern twist on Alice and Wonderland and I’m so excited for the sequel.

THE DUTCH HOUSE by ANN PATCHETT

THE WATER DANCER BY TA-NEHISI COATES, ROXANE GAY, YONA HARVEY

THE WORLD THAT WE KNEW by ALICE HOFFMAN

WAYWARD SON by RAINBOW ROWELL

You know what’s cool? That a character in one of Rowell’s book (Fangirl) wrote fan fiction that was included in the novel and fans of the book loved the fan fiction inserts so much that the inserts ended up being turned into a whole novel (Carry On)! Wayward Son is the second novel in the Carry On fantasy series. If you like Harry Potter, I have a feeling you’ll like this whole series.

Quantum: A Thriller (Captain Chase Book 1) by Patricia Cornwell

DEAR SWEET PEA by JULIE MURPHY

ROYAL HOLIDAY by JASMINE GUILLORY

I love the history behind this novel. Basically, Margaret tweeted about how fun it would be if someone wrote a novel about Megan Markle’s mom going to England and then falling in love with a duke. Guillory responded immediately and called dibs. AMAZING. So in this novel, it’s Maddie’s mom (Maddie from The Wedding Party) who is traveling to England and is going to fall in love!

THE LAST TRUE POETS OF THE SEA by JULIA DRAKE

THE LIBRARY OF THE UNWRITTEN (A NOVEL FROM HELL’S LIBRARY) by A. J. HACKWITH

Face It by Debbie Harry

One way, or another, this biography about the leader signer of Blondie is going to find me.

October 8

THE GIRL WHO READS ON THE METRO by CHRISTINE FERET-FLEURY

THE GRACE YEAR by KIM LIGGETT**

Phew, I read this book in one sitting and it gripped me. I thought it was going to be another one of your basic dystopian reads, but I was wrong. Every thing I guessed was going to happen was wrong. I was so happy about that though. It also felt very contained to one novel, which I really liked. The author could write another one if she wanted to, but it didn’t feel like she needed to. Supernova (Renegades #3) by Marissa Meyer

This series is so much fun. I’m not really a superheroes person, but this book is all about the anti-super heroes. It also plays with the idea of who the real superheroes are, which I really enjoy. If you haven’t read the first two books in this series, don’t worry, you have plenty of time to catch up before the third!

The Starless Sea: A Novel by ERIN MORGENSTERN**

Oh my gosh. You need to get this book. It’s by the same author who wrote the magical book, The Night Circus. It’s been years since that book and it was well worth the wait. This book is a little bit longer and not as easy of a read, but it’s so magical. I might do a full post around release date.

Not the Girl You Marry by Andie J. Christopher

All-American Muslim Girl by Nadine Jolie Courtney

The Season: A Social History of the Debutante by Kristen Richardson

This just sounds so fascinating to me, I couldn’t help but include it on this list. This was a society I was so far removed from (and didn’t even exist where I grew up) that the whole idea and culture of it fascinates me.

The Queen of Nothing (The Folk of the Air #3) by Holly Black

I had to include the third book in the Cruel Prince Series! It’s so popular, how could I leave it out.
