Ughhhh. DC has really been disappointing me on the weather front lately. Every time they tell us there’s a chance of snow, it turns into rain. Or it starts out snowing and then turns into rain. There’s only one good thing that’s come out of it and that’s that all of my chelsea rainboots have gotten a lot of good wear. And that get’s us into today’s post for blogger style two ways!

What’s Blogger Style Two Ways?

What’s Blogger Style Two Ways you ask? Well, it’s only one of my favorite monthly link ups! You see, every month my closet twin, Anne, and I partner up to share two different ways you can one piece of clothing. We’ve styled our favorite J.Crew Factory Vest, white jeans for winter, sweater blazers, and striped turtlenecks. And yes, in case you’re wondering, we both shop at J.Crew Factory a lot.

This month, we’re styling my new obsession, Chelsea Boots! And it’s with perfect timing, because Everlane just came out with a new Chelsea style Everlane Rain Boot. (Okay, my obsession came first, but Everlane’s timing could not have been more perfect.)

Everlane The Rain Boot Review

So What are Chelsea Boots?

I mentioned earlier that the Everlane Rain Boots were created in the Chelsea Boot style, but I realized that I should break down what that style really is.

A Quick History Lesson

The Chelsea boot is actually a style that was started back in the 1850s! It was considered ahead of its time because it used a new invention by Charles Goodyear (sound familiar), vulcanized rubber. It was considered a rugged work boot, especially because of this rubber, and it was also loved by horse riders. But how did it become famous? Well, it was spotted on Queen Victoria!

It didn’t get the name Chelsea until the 1950s though. That ended up happened because influences of a mod-culture called (you guessed it), “the Chelsea set” started wearing them.

But how can you recognize a chelsea boot?

There are two things that define a chelsea boot. First, the elastic side panel. This makes it super easy to put the boot on because you can literally stretch the boot apart to put it on.

The second element is the pull tab. This is another feature that makes it easier to get your boots on! You just slide your finger in the tab and voila! You can easily pull your shoes on.

Isn’t it kind of amazing that the two things that define the boot are the things that make it easier to pull the boot on?

The Chelsea boot was original created with a standard heel and made of leather, but it’s definitely evolved since then. Between my shoes and Anne’s, you can already seen how much variance has happened!

Everlane’s Chelsea Rain Boot

Based on everything I’ve told you about the history of Chelsea boots, now let’s talk about how Everlane’s created their Chelsea style rainboot.

Rubber Material

Because this is, of course, a rain boot, Everlane choose to create this with an easy to clean rubber material. This is great because the material is flexible and it’s more difficult to damage.

Double pull-tabs

I loved the pull tabs on my other Chelsea boots, but I didn’t realize how nice having TWO pull tabs were! Everlane put a pull tab on the front and back. This way you can easily pull your boot open and slide your foot right in.

Thick Soles with Extra Cushioning

This is definitely something that I’ve seen vary from shoe to shoe. I’ve seen Chelsea boots with very thin soles and ones with wedges (like Anne’s!). Since this is a rainboot, Everlane wanted to make sure it gripped on the bottom (no one wants to slide in the rain!) with a capable tread. Even if it magically turns from rain to snow while you’re wearing these boots, you’ll be fine. Even better, They added a cushioned insole so you’re extra comfortable.

Multiple Colors to Choose From

Okay, I just loved that you have five colors to choose from and all of them were really cute. I decided to not get the basic black since I already have a basic black pair (remember, I took them to Europe). But I had a really hard time deciding between the green and pink.

Amazing Price Point

You really can’t beat $75 for a good quality rain boot. Especially compared to some of the other popular rain boot brands that sell their boots for a lot more.

How to Style Everlane The Rain Boot (or any of your Chelsea Rain Boots)

Jeans Tucked Into Boots

These are boots that were made to be tucked into jeans! I paired mine with blue jeans, but I think they would also look great with black jeans tucked in. The black jeans would pair perfectly with the black accents on the boots and extend the boots a little more.

Ankle Jeans or Jeans Cuffed at the Ankle

I haven’t decided if I’m cool enough to try this yet, but I’ve seen a number of girls on the Everlane instagram page try this and they’ve look really cute. You just have to make sure that if you’re wearing ankle jeans, they end just above the boots. Also, if you’re going to cuff them, you can’t do more than two fold or it looks like too much.

Black tights with a skirt or dress

Yes, yes you can pull this off! I personally think it will look the best with an all black Chelsea boot, but you can do it with any of the colors. If you do the all black boots, then I think you can wear pretty much anything on top. However, if you go with a colored boot, then you should keep it fairly neutral on top. This will allow the color in the boots to really pop.
