Embracing the Mules Trend

You know, like most trends, when the mules trend came around, I didn’t embrace it.

You know, like most trends, when the mules trend came around, I didn’t embrace it.

As you know, I’ve been so into clothing that matches my style and is comfortable. The mules trend just didn’t seem like it was going to fit into that. A good for her, but not for me situation. How was I going to walk everywhere in the them? How would they be on the go? Yeah, maybe something that would work around the house, but it wasn’t going to play into the rest of my life.

But the summer has now passed and the trend is still around.

And like most things, the mules have started to grow on me a little bit more. I’ve started to see they come out in a more fall friendly manner. I’ve also seen how other bloggers have been styling their mules. I had come around to enjoying looking at them, but I wasn’t quite there yet.

Then of course, I received Everlane’s “Coming Soon” emails.

Guess what was first on the list. Heeled mules for fall. I could not stop staring at them or figuring out why I was so attracted to them. (Besides the obvious of loving everything Everlane does.) Then it hit me. These reminded me exactly of the clogs that I had growing up. You see, I don’t know why, but starting in fourth (or fifth) grade after we visited family in England, I became obsessed with wearing clogs. They were so easy to slip on and off, and they were so darn comfortable. I wore them all of the time until some point in high school when I just stopped.

Apparently, I was ahead of the mules trend and I didn’t even realize it.

I didn’t even remember that this trend that I had been resisting as “not my style” used to be so closely ingrained as a part of my style growing up. But I didn’t know if it was still “me” now.

So I reached out to Everlane to find out.

I asked them if I could try out a pair of their heeled mules and they happily agreed. Within seconds of receiving them and trying them on, I felt like I was in fourth grade again (in a good way). I was so so happy and felt like I was putting on my favorite pair of clogs from growing up. (It also helped that these were incredibly comfortable and solidified my love of Everlane shoes.)

So what do I think of the mules trend now? I’m all in.
