For this month’s Design to Grow Link Up, the topic was inspiration. How you find it, do you seek it, where do you find it?
It’s funny, because I’ve talked about this topic a lot on instagram, but not that much on here. I think it may have been because the topic of overall inspiration intimidates me. It’s easier to talk about it in smaller bite size chunks when it comes up in my life. In fact, I think it may even be unintentionally divided in my life: outfit inspiration, blog post inspiration, artistic (theater, dance, music), life changes, the list just keeps going.
Since this is on the blog, I was planning on talking about blog posts and outfit inspirations….but then I realized that topic might get a little boring. I get outfit inspiration from other bloggers (if you check out Anne, you’ll definitely see a lot of overlap), clothing ads, and people I see on the street. A lot of which gets pinned on to pinterest (okay, maybe not the random people on the street, that might get weird). For blogging, most of my post ideas just come from what I feel like talking about that week, things I’ve learned, or want to share.
Am I boring you? If not, let me know and in another post, I can go into some of the bloggers I love to follow for outfit inspiration.
Anyways, when it comes to daily life inspiration, there are two areas where I feel like I’m constantly being fed inspiration and grow the most off of that. The first is artistic. As a kid who grew up surrounded by the arts, I love it. I love walking around and seeing new murals or going to a dance performance. I feel so corny saying it feeds my soul, but sometimes that feels like the only way to describe it. I feel like something is missing from my life if I go too long. This was actually one of the reasons that I made it a goal for myself to go out and do/see something related to the arts each week.
Personal growth might be the other area where I get the most inspiration on a daily basis. I hadn’t ever really been into the “self help” topic, but in the last three years, my interest in the area just keeps growing. It probably started with listening to The Lively Show and hearing from all of these amazing people (including Jess Lively, the host of the show). From there, I started branching out into different podcasts and books to help me look at my life from a new perspective.
Here are some of the people/podcasts/books that have been really influential in my life lately:
Jess Lively (and The Lively Show)
Farnoosh Torabi (and So Money)
Year of Yes (Shonda Rhimes)
Better than Before (Gretchen Rubin)
Where do you find inspiration? Do you build it into your life or do you just seek it when you need it? Do you want me to go into more detail about this topic? I feel like there’s so much I want to talk about in this topic that I didn’t even know where to start with this post!
In the mean time, check out the other bloggers in the link up!
