It’s time for the December reading list! Thanks to audiobooks and traveling, I ended up squeezing in a few more books than normal this month. Also, if you’re a mystery/thriller lover, I think you’re going to enjoy this list!

December 2018 Reading List | Something Good | A DC Style and Lifestyle Blog on a Budget

Lethal White by Robert Galbraith

The 4th book in the detective series by Robert Galbraith aka JK Rowling. This one was far less creepy than the third book, but I definitely enjoyed it. Now, I will say, it was long, but I didn’t really think it dragged.

The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand

I’m going to hold off on describing this book because it’s part of a requested book post I’m putting together for next week!

Fallen Heir & Cracked Kingdom by Erin Watt

These two books are a a continuation of a romance series that I read a few months ago when my brain needed a serious break. These two recently came out on audible, so I was excited to listen to them once my brain was read for another break during cyber madness. In comparison to the first three books, these two were heavy on the romance and drama and very light on the sexy times. It seems like they were ending the series with Cracked Kingdom, but I could see Erin Watt easily writing another book in the series if she wanted too.

The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory

Did you know that The Proposal is the follow up to The Wedding Date? The Prosposal follows Carlos, Drew’s best friend from The Wedding Date. Carlos meets Nik at a Dodger’s game when Nik is proposed to by her butthead boyfriend of five months. It’s a fun book and a great follow up to The Wedding Date. I’m still deciding which one I like more though…

Bring Me Back by B.A. Paris

All this crappy weather has me in serious need of some thrillers. I don’t know if I liked this one as much as B.A. Paris’s other book, but I can promise that I didn’t guess the ending.

Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty

This felt like such a departure from Moriarty’s regular books, but in the best possible way. Nine people sign up for what’s supposed to be a wellness retreat to help them heal and reset their lives. Unfortunately this retreat has a more…unconventional way of helping people.

The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine

I had no idea what I was getting into with this book. I almost put it down. Luckily I didn’t, because I ended up loving it! All of the twists and turns are so good. I listened to it on audio and I just had to keep going. It’s a good thriller-ish novel with a satisfying ending.

The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang

I did a mini stories review on this book, that you can still check out in my stories highlights! To sum though, this was my first real graphic novel and it was great! It’s about a prince who loves wearing dresses, but is afraid that his secret will get out. So he hires a talented dressmaker to come make dresses for him in secret. It’s a really quick read, but I highly recommend it, especially if you’ve never read a graphic novel before! https://www.instagram.com/somethinggoodbg/

My Name Is Victoria by Lucy Worsley

I always forget how much I love historical fiction until I get my hands on a good one. This one discusses the early life of Queen Victoria, an English queen who I don’t know as much about. It’s told from the view point of another Victoria, a girl about the same age who is forced to live with and befriend the young queen as she grows up. I love this novel of what ifs and maybes and I’m excited read more about Queen Victoria now.

The Gates of Evangeline by Hester Young

This book was recommended to me by Anne when I was in a bit of a reading slum and I’m so glad she did! The Gates of Evangeline is a mystery novel that takes you into the south with a writer who is trying to solve the years old disappearance of a three year old boy from a prominent Southern family. The more she learns though, the weirder the case gets. I listened to it on audio and it just got better and better.

My Squirrel Days by Ellie Kemper

Isn’t Ellie Kemper the best? Her memoir is filled with hilarious stories of her growing up and trying to become an actress. If you love any of her work, you’ll love this. Plus, the audiobook is read by her, which just makes it even better.
