With so many people working from home now, the lines between work wear and casual weekend outfits seem to have become incredibly blurred. I know I’ve had a problem with it. But because I’ve realized those lines have become so blurred, I’ve decided to actually start making an effort with my outfits now on weekends. How? Well, I mean it is still the weekend, so I want to still relax and dress down.

However, I’m making sure that I’m not just throwing on clothes, but putting together an outfit. That just means adding that accessory at the end that ties everything with your outfit together. Or instead of throwing on ruined flip flops, I’ll pick a cuter pair of sandals or slides (remember when I talked about those?).
The best part about wearing an outfit is that you just feel better. You feel more confident, which just makes your whole day better. With that in mind, I thought I would share a roundup of casual outfits that you can wear on the weekends.
Casual Weekend Outfits
Weekend Errands
No matter how you try to avoid it, errands on weekends are inevitable. There’s always just that one errand that needs to get done. For me, it’s always the groceries. I feel like it’s probably groceries for a lot of people. For this outfit I feel like this outfit is typically tied to whatever you’re doing before or after the errand. Or just athleisure so you can tell yourself you’re going to go workout after (errands count as a workout!).
For this outfit, I would suggest starting with the shoes. Errands typically involve a lot of walking, so go with either sneakers or something equally comfortable. I like to then move up the body from there with my outfit. Pants or shorts are typically preferable to help with ease of movement. I’ll finally then pick a top that goes with the pants, shoes, and weather. For example, with this outfit, I chose this shorts and long sleeve combination because it was warm outside, but I knew I was going to be moving between air conditioned spaces. So I was going to get cold on top and would prefer to have long sleeves. But having pants instead of shorts would just be too much.
But it might make more sense for you to wear a short sleeve top and bring a sweater for the A/C spaces. Does that make sense? It’s all about thinking about your environment!
Here are some cute (and comfortable!) shorts, shoes, and light long sleeve tops, that would be great for running errands!
Casual Date Night
Is there a more perfect choice for a casual date night than a slip jumpsuit? No, I don’t think there is. Now, if you want to know how to keep it casual, I talk all about it in this post. The post is also a pretty good guide for how to dress down any dress or jumpsuit. The trick? A jean jacket. It works every time.

Coffee with a Friend
I couldn’t help it, this outfit just screamed coffee shop to me. Don’t you love coffee shops in the summer though? The A/C is on full blast and no one judges you if you drink a hot drink. The outfit I’m showing here goes with the idea that you’re drinking your coffee inside OR that it’s maybe in the lower 70s. If this was a coffee date, I would say dress up, but this is coffee with a friend! Grab your boyfriend jeans and a cute top and you’ll be good to go. Any cute top would work with this look, but I like the idea of pairing it with a white button up because it gives a little more polish to the look. Leaving it untucked also says “I tried…but not that hard.”
Now, rubber slides might have seemed like an odd choice with this outfit, but hear me out. They’re comfortable and they have an adorable flower pattern on them. At first glance they don’t even feel like a typical “pool shoe.” I could have grabbed any shoe here, but this is the kind of shoes that you wear for girls, not for guys.
Exploring a New City
I’ve missed a good day trip or overnight trip. They’re the best for weekend outfits though because you can look as cute as you want.
For this outfit, we’ll talk about how it’s great for exploring a new city in the summer. First, we know why dresses are better for summer outfits. We’ve talked about it. So based on that, I would pick a dress. If you’re in a new city, you’re probably going to be walking around a lot, but most of it will be outside. So you want something that will let you move but also keep you cool. Dresses are the answer (long or short, just not tight!).
Next, you’ll want a pair of shoes that are good for walking. These DON’T have to be sneakers. I have a pair of flats that are amazing for long days of walking and ditto for sandals. You just have to know what’s right for you. (And maybe bring some blister prevention in case you start to realize your shoes are rubbing and you were wrong.)
Finally, grab a purse that’s not too big, but big enough to hold the necessities. I love a good crossbody bag for this, but just make sure it’s comfortable.

Weekend Workout
I don’t think there’s anything more casual than activewear, right? But where it goes tricky is if you want to turn your activewear to athleisure and take it out for a walk in public. Okay, I know I said tricky, but if you follow a few rules it’s actually not that tricky.
(Also, I would just want to add this caveat of nothing below has anything to do with what you wear to the gym or decide to workout in. The activewear industry has gone crazy in the last few years because it’s convinced people that you need to wear their stuff if you want to work out. That’s not true. You can wear whatever you want to wear to work out in. For this conversation, we’re solely talking about trying out the athleisure trend in public on the weekends.)
First, I don’t care what you wear to the gym or to hangout around your house in. But if you want it to be “athleisure”, you’re not going to wear any ratty gym clothes. No years-old oversized t-shirts, sweatshirts, or sweatpants. Joggers are an acceptable sweatpant though.
Second, your shoes don’t matter as much as you think they might. You don’t need to wear sneakers with activewear. You can wear sandals, flats, sneakers, whatever fits where you’re going.
Finally, the fit matters. Not how fit you are, but that your clothes fit you correctly. This ties back into the first point. For athleisure, you want active wear that is your actual size. Not super oversize or too small. Why? Well, first you should never wear anything too small, it constricts blood flow and that’s bad. But not oversized because the point is to look intentional with your outfit. Wearing an oversized sweatshirt and sweatpants doesn’t look intentional.
Old Navy is my favorite place to go for inexpensive athleisure! Here are some great pieces to get you started.
