Oof. The office holiday party. This can go so many directions. Are you meeting with colleagues in the office? Out of the office? Is your boss throwing it? Is a client hosting? There are so many variables!
The good news is that you can use a lot of my earlier holiday dressing guides to narrow down some of your options. The bad news is that we still have a few to go. For your work life, I thought we could focus on two work party occasions: the casual office holiday party and the dressy holiday office party.
During today’s post, we’ll focus on the casual office holiday party.
The Casual Office Holiday Party
What’s a casual office holiday party?
Think an in office party. It’ll probably take place during the day at the office or immediately after work at a nearby restaurant or bar. You’ll be expected to wear what you would wear to work normally, but maybe with a holiday twist. It’s probably the easiest holiday outfit you’ll have to come up with, because it’s just work attire.
So what’s the struggle?
Well, in my opinion, I don’t think there is much of one. I think that if anything, people want to find ways to make it a little more festive without going overboard in their attire. Luckily, it’s really easy to make your outfit a little more fun, but stick to your office’s dress code.
How to Add Festive Touches to Your Work Appropriate Outfit
Add in Plaid
This would be the perfect time to check back with my post about all the ways you can wear plaid! Pick an item of clothing, and instead of sticking to a solid color, substitute out that item for a similar piece in plaid. In this outfit, I chose to wear my new plaid shoes from Talbots. But you can also do a plaid bow, plaid skirt, or even plaid pants! Either way, it’s an instantly festive look.
Add a Pop of Red
What’s more fun than red? Ever since I’ve received my red pair of heels from Everlane, I love using them to add a fun pop to all of my outfits. It instantly brightens my outfits and draws a little more attention to them.
Find the tiniest touch of glitter
If you’re a more subtle kind of gal, don’t worry, you can still have fun with your office holiday party outfit. In fact, you can have a lot of fun! There are so many companies that are pulling out sweaters and tops with just the tiniest bit of shimmer to them. They’ll glimmer when they catch the light, but they won’t be overwhelming at all.
Pull Your Ugly Christmas Sweater Back out
This will totally depend on your office of course. But wouldn’t it be fun to dress in a completely normal work outfit for the day and then show up to the party in your ugly Christmas sweater?
Next up, we’ll talk about what to wear to your dressy holiday work party. Until then, I want to know, what type of holiday party is your office having? What are you planning on wearing??
