When I first saw this skirt, I went back and forth on whether or not I wanted to get. I had donated a lot of my skirts during my last closet clean out (because I wasn’t wearing them), so I was a little iffy about buying more skirts.
One of the issues I’ve been thinking about lately is how I’ve justified my clothing purchases. I would tell myself a lot that “I clearly love how it looks online, so I’ll wear it a lot to all of these places all of the time.”
But then you get the piece and what do you know, that occasion never happens, so the clothes just hang out in your closet. You keep telling yourself you’ll find a time to wear it, but, well….
Isn’t it amazing the lies we can tell ourselves sometimes when we’re shopping? How we’ll come up with excuses and places we could potentially go and potentially wear something? I don’t know about you, but I use to do it all of the time.
Sometimes, I still do.
But it’s time for me to break that habit. There’s no reason for me to buy clothes that I have no where to wear them. I don’t buy floor length gowns since I don’t go to balls, so why should I wear “going out” clothes when I don’t really “go out”?
I don’t have any crazy delusions that it’ll be an easy habit to break, but I might as well try, right? It’ll be hard when I see that cute pair of heels that would look so cute with that skirt the next time I dress up…but I have to keep my goals for my wardrobe in mind (yes, I have goals for my wardrobe).
Part of what I want out of my wardrobe is to be able to mix and match pieces for the work or weekend. I don’t want useless clutter to block my way to those pieces either. So if something doesn’t match either of those categories, I don’t want to spend my money on it.
It’s not going to be easy, but hopefully it’ll help me end the year on a good note money-wise.
Do you have any goals for your end of year spending? How do you keep yourself from impulse buying?

Thank you Rebecca!
I set a monthly budget for myself, which keeps the unnecessary purchases to a minimum since then I won’t be able to buy things I actually need. I love your flats, they seem very versatile.

I’ve been doing a budget and it’s been helping, but sometimes the impulse buys can be hard to resist!
I know! It’s so easy to imagine yourself wearing something, and then never actually wear it! I bet you get a lot of use from this skirt though. It’s stunning.

Oh, how I love your gorgeous plaid skirt! It is so difficult for me to say no when I see something I really like. I can totally see how this skirt in particular would be styled over and over, so I think you made a good decision to purchase it. ๐ Thanks for linking up with Fabulous Friday!
